Our Story
The story of Three Elephants Travels begins with a boy named Laki, growing up in a small village in Sri Lanka surrounded by rice paddies, fresh vegetables, and the irresistible aroma of spices wafting from the family kitchen. From a young age, Laki was captivated by the magic of cooking, watching his father prepare meals over a crackling fire using ingredients that were as nourishing as they were healing. In Sri Lanka, food is more than just food it's medicine, culture, and memory passed down over generations. That same philosophy shaped Laki’s life and guided him across the world to regional Victoria, Australia, where he became head chef at the Birchip Hotel. There, among endless Mallee farmlands and a tight-knit farming community, Laki felt at home once again. His meals became a bridge between two worlds Australia and Sri Lanka and his deep care for people left a lasting impression. Years later, Laki brought his passion for authentic Sri Lankan cuisine to Melbourne’s vibrant suburb of St Kilda, where he opened Three Elephants & Co. The restaurant quickly became a beloved local destination not just for food, but for warmth, stories, and connection. Locals came for the curry but stayed for the feeling of home. Now, with Three Elephants Travels, that same spirit of hospitality has taken a new direction from the kitchen to the heart of Sri Lanka itself.
